A bright sunny day , lovely club and pitch, boys looking good in the warm up but unfortunately from the first whistle Sutton looked to play good running rugby and with countless missed tackles and poor ball retention from Shippo we soon found ourselves behind, with 20 mins on the clock we were 24 - 0. The pattern of Sutton running good lines and breaking through at will continued to half time with the score reaching 36-0.
The second half started in much the same way. A highlight of a bit of plane watching for the travelling support, but with two tries both converted within 10 minutes, this could have signalled the end of the match with Sutton reaching 50 points. But the boys dug in and found some spirit and fight and actually started to make a game of it if thats possible at 50 - 0 down . Shipston did manage to put some nice moves together and also started to tackle with some real gusto but another uncoverted try was the last score of the game so a final score of 55-0 .
They say you learn more from defeats than victories so on that basis we will be all the better for it. I'm sure the boys know they didn't do themselves justice today and I'm sure the next team we play may suffer a backlash from today. On the plus side the Guinness was good and we found out Pete Dews can't catch .
