Shipston dominate Alcester

It was a wet and windy Sunday morning at Alcester Rugby Club with a great turnout from Shipston. 21 boys were there and Shipston lent two to Alcester. It was very soggy and Shipston looked a little rusty perhaps from the excess of water, or possibly from the excesses of Christmas!!

Shipston were quickly on the scoreboard when Henry went over in the corner. Alcester returned the compliment with a try from our very own Alistair. Adam kicked through and following the ball went over the try line, a little bit of luck made a really classy try.

Shipston started to get things together and George Verinder showed great maturity with a super run, drawing in several defenders and as he was tackled releasing the ball with good awareness to his supporting players. Added to this Archie tackled voraciously, the ball was passed across the pitch to Matt Squance who scored a super try.

The second half saw an individual try from George V and an Alcester score that was converted. Play became a little complicated and messy, the boys seemed to be trying a bit too hard. Finally the ball fell into the hands of the indomitable George Hendy who straightened and scored a neat try under the posts, converted by Adam. George Verinder quickly followed with an individual try from the halfway line, again converted by Adam. Ilias was next on the scoreboard, he feinted and from the touch line we could all see what was going to happen next for Shipston's seventh of the day.

Particular note goes to Harry for his incredible work rate and effect in the pack, Will for some excellent second row play and control of the lineout, Aaron, who had his best game yet and locked out the scrum and Zac who did a great job on the far wing, constantly talking to his fellow players and managing the back line.
