Shipston U14 continued their winning run with a hard fought 24-5 victory against a very strong and skillful Bredon side.
Shipston got off to a great start, collecting the Bredon kick off, driving forward and moving the ball to left winger Chris Barker Harland to score under the posts, with Henry Hopkins converting for a 7-0 lead.
Bredon responded strongly and had a good 5 minutes possession in the Shipston 22 and finally broke down the outstanding defence to score in the corner. The game was evenly matched with Shipston edging the rucks and mauls. Shipston broke away towards the end of the half and Will Baxter scored to give a 12-5 lead at half time.
Both teams came out strong and determined in the second half with exceptional play from both sides. Bredon had good possession but outstanding defence from Shipston stopped them getting close to the try line. A good break out from defence set Shipston up with some territory and after some great play between the forwards Alex Sabin dived over from a yard out to stretch the lead to 17-5.
The last ten minutes saw Bredon trying to get back into the game but more outstanding defence from Shipston kept them out. The game finished with a further Shipston try on the last play from Will Baxter, which was again converted by Henry Hopkins.
Two very well matched sides played an outstanding game of rugby with Shipston edging the rucks and mauls to come out on top with a deserved win by a slightly flattering scoreline.
A great effort from both teams.
