Shipston secured victory in the first round of the RFU Senior Vase on Saturday with a comprehensive victory against game opposition in Dunstablians RFC. After the disappointment of letting the game slip the previous week, Shipston were determined to stamp their authority on this game early and they set about their work convincingly from the kick off. The forwards were quick in support and at the break down, moving the bigger and heavier Dunstablians pack around the park, creating ample space out wide for the backs to play. There were a couple of debut tries for Harry Clark, who had a very impressive performance on the wing and tries also for Tarek Laktaf, Tommy Barry, Charlie Hollies-Everett (x2) and Robert James.
Over the course of the 80 minutes Shipston impressed on home turf and managed to stick to the patterns of play drilled into them throughout the weeks at training. The lineout functioned much better and the back line were clinical whenever they were given the opportunity out wide. The final score was 39-3 to the Rams', conceding just a speculative drop-goal in the face of a solid defensive display.
Next up for Shipston is the visit of Ledbury as we head back to Midlands 3 West (South) action, with the kick off back to 3pm.
