Message from the Chairman of Mini and Junior Rugby
Welcome to our tenth season of youth rugby at Shipston. From a starting group of about forty youngsters we have grown to over 260 members in age groups from under 7s to under 17s. We pride ourselves on being a family friendly club where everyone is welcome and look forward to seeing you all again in September.
The success and continuation of the youth section is dependent on the many people who willingly give up their time to coach, administrate and officiate the section and we owe them a great deal of thanks. However due to the large numbers of children now coming through the club we are looking for more volunteers to share the work load.
At present we are seeking a junior fixture secretary and volunteers from each age group to help with administration and kitchen duty. Two/three people are required to run the second hand kit stall during September. Then of course there is the annual mini festival-this really is a day that the more hands and heads involved the more successful the day can be. This year the festival will be held on Sunday 5th October.
If you are able to help in anyway with the above, with sponsorship, coaching, organising social events please see or Richard or Jane Slatter. oe email them on mjs13@btinternet.com.
In the meantime please find enclosed two forms for your completion, please can you hand these to Richard or his helpers with a cheque made payable to Shipston on Stour RFC for the correct membership fee on the first day that your child attends training. (Do not send in post please.) If your child will not be joining the club this season please can you advise your coach. They are of course welcome to rejoin at any time.
The membership fee covers use of the club facilities, hot food for the children following a match and goes towards ensuring your coaches are up to date with training courses and the cost of equipment and insurance.
The club is legally required to take out the basic minimum insurance cover provided by the Rugby Football Union to run a youth section, (which only covers the extremes such as loss of sight, limb and death) you are therefore strongly recommended to consider further private cover with your usual insurers.
Once again, Dentists Ian and Emma Speechley will be at the club on the first and second Sunday in September 10.30am for the fitting and purchase of mouth guards. They always have a great selection to choose from and are generally ready for collection the following Sunday.
We will be running a second hand kit stall (providing we have a volunteer!) during September. If you wish to donate any kit or boots please bring them along during this time ensuring that are in good repair and clean. Any items not sold will sent to a charity shop. New kit will be available from the club shop.
With regards and best wishes for the 2008-2009 season,
Richard Slatter.
