As the end of the rugby season draws near we have a very important date for your diaries:

Shipston RFC ‘Club Day’ – Saturday18th April

This is a day when the rugby club will say a big “thank you” to all of our coaches, parents, players, friends and supporters for their efforts and support throughout the 14/15 season, and when we will celebrate together another great year of rugby at Shipston RFC.

This is not a fundraiser for the club, but much more of a ‘Fun Raiser’ with activities for everyone involved across the club and the town – senior and junior, social member and club sponsors. It is also the perfect chance to come down to the club for the first time and see what it is all about, or come back to the club after a year or a decade or two away, perhaps.

To give you a flavour of the day, here is a quick snippet of some of the activities that will be taking place:

Leicester Tigers will be with us with “The Maul”

Shipston Town Mayor’s XV vs Shipston RFC Presidents XV (in support of the Mayor's charity)

Ladies/Girls Tag Match – featuring ‘Mums in Boots’

Inter Club Match (2 ‘mixed’ teams made up of Seniors and Colts) for the ‘Egg Cup’

The ‘Lady Fuel’ Bar - serving Chilled Prosecco, Canapes & Cappucino

Pig Roast & BBQ

Live Music

We will also be marking a truly extraordinary milestone for one of our most respected club members (his words, not ours)). This season, Rob Hawkins has celebrated 45 year ‘on the pitch’ at Shipston RFC, as either a player or referee! Although Rob continues to referee and shows no sign or desire to hang-up his boots and whistle, despite decades of opposition advice for him to do just that, we feel that this event is the ideal time to kick-off Rob’s countdown to 50 years! Rob will, naturally, be referring the Mayor v President’s invitation game on the 18th, and has requested the serving of some very specific half-time refreshments for all those involved!!

You will be hearing more very soon from your coaches, captains and members of the club committee, so please get the date down in your diary as one not to be missed. If you ever played for Shipston or dreamed of playing for Shipston, and can still draw breath, you should bring your boots along with you on the day.

The event is very kindly being coordinated by Malcolm Littlewood (thank you Malcolm), so please direct any questions and, in particular, offers of help on the day, to Malcolm: M.I.Littlewood@btinternet.com

This looks like being another great Shipston Rugby Club Day, so please do block it out in your diary. The event will start around 1pm in the afternoon and end when it ends. All welcome.
